KUCHING: The recent Public Works Department (JKR) Building Information Model (BIM) Roadshow 2023 brought together industry experts, government officials, and academic professionals to explore the power of digital transformation.
The roadshow on June 21 and 22 was jointly organised by Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, JKR Malaysia, CIDB Malaysia and CP Development.
“On the first day, the BIM seminar drew 130 participants where renowned industry experts shared the latest advances and best practices of BIM contract and engineering requirements in JKR projects. Among others, the session covered various aspects of BIM including standards, guidelines project management, digital collaboration, data management and interoperability.
“The second day saw some 125 participants engaged in a BIM workshop where they were given hands-on and practical demonstrations and presented with real world scenarios. These enhanced the participants’ skills and proficiency in applying BIM methodologies and technologies,” Swinburne Sarawak said in a statement today.
According to Pro Vice-Chancellor and chief executive officer of Swinburne Sarawak Professor Lau Hieng Ho, the roadshow is a positive shift towards digital transformation, positioning Sarawak as a leader in adopting BIM technologies.
“Through the roadshow, we witnessed the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and experiences, all of which paved the way for a more digitally driven construction sector in Sarawak.
“The roadshow underscores the growing importance of digital transformation and the significant role played by BIM and Digital Twin technologies in revolutionising the construction industry,” he said.
Lau also said the roadshow provided a platform for sharing ideas, best practices and innovative solutions through a conducive knowledge exchange, collaboration and networking environment.
“Participants had ample opportunity to connect with industry professionals, officials and academic experts, foster valuable relationships and pave future collaborations.
“At Swinburne Sarawak, the university’s BIM and Digital Twin research group serves as a hub for industry collaboration, academic research, and technology transfer. The group actively addresses real-world challenges through partnerships with industry stakeholders while driving the adoption of BIM and Digital Twin technologies across the construction sector,” he said.
