KUCHING: The state’s Covid-19 immunisation programme will rollout in Bintulu, Miri and Limbang once the second vaccine shipment arrives.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said this will be on March 4 with a total of 31,590 doses delivered.
“We expect the second air shipment with 31,590 doses on March 4. By then, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang divisions will be able to roll out their vaccination programme,” he said in a Facebook post.
Dr Sim said a total of 1,688 frontliners have been vaccinated during the first day of the vaccine rollout in Sarawak at 41 centres across nine divisions. He said during the second day, a total 3,300 frontliners were vaccinated.
“Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg visited Stadium Perpaduan here on Saturday which is the largest of the 54 public vaccination centres for Phase 1 of the immunisation programme.
“With the smooth implementation of the programme during the two days as well as three private medical centres starting to vaccinate their own medical staff next week, we expect the pace to pick up further,” he said.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor said Sarawak aims to complete its vaccination by August.
He said the authorities target to vaccinate about 2 million Sarawakian and about 200,000 non-Sarawakian residents.
“We will start small — to troubleshoot any potential issues and will scale up fast with the vaccination reaching its peak by May 2021.
“We expect more than 900,000 Sarawakians would have been vaccinated (at the time),” he said.
Last Friday, Abang Johari was the first Sarawakian to be inoculated during the first day of the state’s immunisation programme.
Sarawak received its first batch of 23,400 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine on Feb 24.
