KAPIT: Rooney Ricky Jameson was awarded the Anugerah Tokoh Pelajar Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Selirik (SMK Selirik), Kapit in conjunction with the Outstanding Student Award Ceremony (APC) of SMK Selirik Session 2022/2023.
According to the statement by JAPEN, Rooney, who is also the school head of prefect, was chosen to receive the award because he is a student who excels in academics and is active in extracurricular activities, in which he had participated in several competitions at the district and state levels.
In addition to the award, Rooney was also selected as the best student in form 5 for the subjects Malay Language, History, Mathematics, Chemistry and Computer Science in addition to being one of the recipients of the Outstanding Character Student Award together with Cerinna Khairul Nizan.
The said award ceremony was held at Dewan Setia Kasih yesterday.
Meanwhile, for the Best Co-Curriculum Student Award, it was given to Samuel Rawing Augustine (male category) and Thrisya Abong (female category) while the Nilam Award (5 Stars) was presented to Charllene Belle Daniel, Felex Undi Jawie, Rooney Ricky Jameson, Asffrina Aleya Bajang and Emilyana Nguyan Machau for having read more than 600 books while studying at the school.
As such, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Duties) Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, who attended to officiate at the ceremony, called on parents and teachers to join hands to play their roles in ensuring that the students attend school and carefully monitor them so they do not get involved in any social problems.
“I also hope that civil servants in this area will always practise the principles of transparency and trust when carrying out their responsibilities to the people in line with the concept of a Madani Malaysia brought by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” he added.
