FARAMAS lights up the Malacca Straits Gala Night show’s runway in red! According to its founder Fara Mas, red has had a significant impact on fashion and will continue to do so. Red has a strong association with feminine power throughout many cultures, but it also signifies passion, joy, and charm.

Red — the colour of strength, confidence

On the long fashion runway, Fara Mas brought out the stunning colour, red!

The fashion collection is fantastic. The designer is audacious, remarkable, and attractive. That is most likely why she is named Fara, as each letter of her name corresponded to a description of what we saw in a Straits Gala Night show in Malacca.

“The core concept of FARAMAS designs has always been and will always be empowering women. As a woman and a designer, it is not only my passion, but also my goal, to assist women change into the most confident versions of themselves; to help them establish their own identity through my designs; and to create their very own fashion statement,” said Fara when asked why she chose such a bold colour.

According to her, the colour red has and will continue to have tremendous influence in the fashion world due to its highest wavelength on the spectrum. In many cultures, red is connected with feminine power, but it also represents passion, joy, and charm.

Her renaissance-inspired fashion line was embellished with feathers, lace, and rhinestones.

The diversity of her fashion silhouettes is an expression of a woman’s different facades. The following lines by Fara summarise the ideas behind this collection. It’s a dedication to all the women in the world:

“I am a Woman,
Powerful and charismatic,
Yet, soft and vulnerable.
I put my armour on, at times, I am a warrior.
I can be bubbly and sparkly,
I can be seductive
And at times, elegant and glamourous.
I am a Woman;
A multi-faceted creation,
One who has the marvellous gift of creating life.”

Does she feel that sales will be better this year?

We are at the start of a new fashion age in which rising fashion designers and small fashion brands are more relevant than long-established fashion houses.

This means that individuals who are unwilling to walk down the beaten path risk not being recognised and well-received by fashion-forward clients looking for a breath of fresh air.

What does she think of the Straits Designers’ Gallery (SDG) platform in Malacca, a history city that has just been named a fashion destination?

SDG, with its first outlet at Metra Square Melaka, is a platform established by ShengTai International to bring together local and international young designers, with the goal of introducing fresh and innovative ideas from around the world to Malaysia’s fashion scene. Also, to encourage and introduce to the world local designers who are exceptionally unique and creative.

With ShengTai International’s powerful marketing strategies, SDG has tremendous potential to grow and expand globally.

Fara was chosen to present her collection at the Straits Gala Night 2023 under the SDG platform.

Does she find it more challenging as a foreign designer?

“I’ve been in Malaysia since 2007, when I was 23 years old. Thus, I don’t consider myself to be a foreigner. I’ve had about 15 years to become acquainted with Malaysian culture.

“I am the CEO and Creative Director of FARAMAS SDN BHD, and my team is made up of local and foreign experts from various cultural backgrounds. Because of this cultural diversity, each team member has the ability to be a problem solver along the road.

“One thing I’ve learned from Malaysian culture is to approach challenges with optimism. Every obstacle is an opportunity to become wiser and stronger.”

Fara, who holds a PhD in Gender Sociology and Visual Culture of Fashion from the University of London, said, “Wear Red to show your strength and confidence!”
