ACTOR Roy Azman and his family narrowly escaped from his car that was engulfed by fire on a KL highway recently.
The 53-year-old artiste posted a video of his car up in flames on social media and later shared another video of himself explaining the incident that took place on Sunday.
“Alhamdulillah, my wife, my kid and I are safe. We were able to exit the burning car in time. Earlier, I had sent that car for an overhaul in Ampang. When the overhaul was completed, I went and collected the car.
“We then went for a meal in Puncak Alam with friends, and when we left at about 11 pm there were cars honking at us, telling us that our car was on fire,” he said.
Roy explained that the fire was underneath the car and streaking out to the back as the vehicle was moving forward on the highway, so they couldn’t see it.
“Eventually we realised what was happening, but then the brakes didn’t work. Luckily, the handbrake was still functioning. It took a while, but eventually the car stopped. Fortunately, we didn’t crash into the road divider,” he said.
Roy added that the car was already ablaze by the time it had come to a dead stop.
“It was a chaotic moment as the car was really on fire, but, Alhamdulillah, we managed to save ourselves and escape,” he said.
A grateful Roy thanked everyone who had prayed for them, showed concern, called them and sent messages.
“Thank you also to Datuk Eg, Datin Heykal, Faezah, Yusof and Akmal who were there with us after that ordeal and accompanied us to make the police report,” he said. Roy added that the car was a total loss and burned beyond repair.
“The most important thing is that everyone is safe and sound.”
