KUCHING: A Royal Medical Corps team has flown to Kapit to set up a field hospital there to alleviate the situation at Kapit Hospital.

In a statement today, the 1st Infantry Division said essential medical equipment were also being brought in.

“These include beds, medical trolleys, computer sets, X-ray equipment, tents, oxygen and portable air conditioners as well as other equipment for the setting up of the field hospital.

“The team left at 2.55pm. After arriving at Sibu Airport, they will travel to Kapit in a seven-truck convoy.”

Previously, the 1st Infantry Division said a team had been deployed to Kapit to assess the location for the field hospital.

This came following Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba’s discussions with the Defense Ministry on efforts to establish field hospitals in Sarawak.

It pointed out that Kapit Hospital had limited capacity in view of the increase in Covid-19 cases in the district.

The field hospital will be set up at Dewan Masyarakat Melayu, about 5km from Kapit Hospital.
