KUCHING: Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Sarawak gives fair coverage to all quarters in line with the government’s policy on championing media freedom, RTM said in a statement here yesterday.
The national broadcaster said in the first four months of this year, RTM covered 181 activities involving the Chief Minister of Sarawak , state ministers and the Sarawak state government, which were broadcast on various platforms.
“These includes programmes related to current affairs news on radio, television and social media…The news reports were done in various languages and local dialects,” said RTM in responding to Sarawak Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah’s remarks pertaining to RTM Sarawak’s coverage.
According to the statement, the allegation that RTM did not cover the Chief Minister and state government programmes was baseless.
At the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly sitting yesterday, Abdul Karim accused Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo of “playing politics”, claiming that RTM was not fair in its coverage.
In fact, RTM noted that in line with the government’s policy on championing freedom of the media and on the instruction from Gobind Singh Deo, RTM was free to do media coverage on Sarawak state government activities. – Bernama
