LINGGA: The Sarawak government is always proactive in providing various initiatives to develop an area including Lingga, which was elevated to a district in 2021, said its assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor.
Citing the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects as an example which has been implemented since 2014, she said it is one of the platforms that contribute to the implementation of development projects in rural and coastal areas.
“I fully support this programme to continue to be implemented in the long term because it is very close to the hearts of all Sarawakians.
“Under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the state government is very committed to expand the construction of bridges or connecting roads in the coastal areas of Sarawak.
“One of which we can see is the Second Trunk Road (STR) of Sebuyau-Lingga, which is expected to be completed in 2025,” she said during the Sarawakku Sayang programme held at Dataran Pekan Lingga, yesterday (Nov 12).
According to her, with the bridge, it is estimated that the journey from Lingga to Sebuyau will take around 30 to 40 minutes.
“Not only in Sebuyau, from Lingga you can go to Meludam, to Beladin, to Pusa, to Simunjan and then to Kuching.
“It has been proven that the Sarawak government knows the needs of the communities here,” she said.
In the past, Lingga only had a fishing wharf jetty, but now boasts the beautiful Lingga Waterfront Complex Phase 1 which has been completed recently and will be used for the launch of the Lingga Regatta on Dec 2 – 4.
“This is the first time that a big regatta event will be held in Lingga because previously, only small-scale festivals were held.
“This is one of the initiatives and efforts to promote Lingga as one of the eco-tourism locations,” she added.
