THE Kapit District Council (KDC) has announced plans to extend its rubbish collection services to road-linked longhouses in Song district.

Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil said the expansion of the service will benefit areas at Jalan Takan until Rumah Jala including Jalan Song/Sibu until Sebuloh, and Jalan Song Kapit which covers the Lajan and Embuau area.

“The KDC is also in the process of constructing one new bin centre at the junction of SK Ng Temalat and two new bin centres along Embuau area.

“The rubbish collection services for these areas began on Nov 20, with a collection frequency of three times a week,” he said in response to Lidam Assan (GPS-Katibas) during Q&A session in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today.

Earlier, Lidam asked about the plans to include road-accessible longhouses in rubbish collection services.

Meanwhile, Dr Penguang highlighted further plans for the KDC, including the construction of more bin centres along Jalan Temalat to Teluk Jambu, Embuau to Lajan, and Jalan Takan to Rumah Penghulu Galau, which will be implemented in stages starting next year.

However, services to Nanga Banjor will be provided after the reconstruction of the collapsed Nanga Musah Bridge.

Addressing concerns about the current Song dumping ground at Jalan Takan, Dr Penguang revealed that it is 60 per cent full, with an estimated lifespan of another eight years.

Moreover, he said KDC is currently at the discussion stage with the Land and Survey Department to build a level 3 sanitary landfill at Nanga Mumu which will cover rubbish collection from Kapit and Song.
