Rumah Bengau wins Premier Village Award

KAPIT: Rumah Bengau at Sungai Sut, Baleh has won the Divisional level “Anugerah Desa Perdana” (Premier Village Award) competition under the Longhouse category while Kampung Gelam Song is the winner  under the “Kampung Traditional” category respectively.

Both Rumah Bengau and Kampung Gelam Song received a cash prize of RM5,000 and a certificate each.

Rumah Bengau will be representing Sarawak at the National level “Anugerah Desa Perdana” for the Longhouse category while Kampung Gelam Song will represent Kapit division at the state level “Anugerah Desa Perdana” in the “Kampung Traditional” category.

In the second place for the Longhouse category was Rumah Lorie @ Gembal at Nanga Ibau, Batang Rajang Kapit while Rumah Bangkong at Nanga Sebala,  Mujong, Baleh came  third.

Rumah Lorie received a cash prize of RM4000 and a certificate while Rumah Bangkong received RM3000 and a certificate.

Meanwhile, second in the “Kampung Traditional”  category was Kampung Long Busang in the Belaga District; it received a cash prize of RM4000 and a certificate.

Kampung Muhibbah at Jalan Bleteh, which came third,  received a cash prize of   RM3000 and a certificate. 

The simple prize giving ceremony was held at the conference room of Bukit Mabong District Office on the 8th Floor of the State Office Complex on Wednesday morning.

The ceremony was officiated by  State Assemblyman for Bukit Goram, Jefferson Jamit Unyat.

In his remarks at the ceremony, Jamit thanked KEMAS and the Resident Office for organising the meaningful programme for the people.

“It is not easy to win as it involves many criteria and, at the same time, it takes time, team work and close cooperation of the village and longhouse committee to prepare for the competition,” he said.

The judging for the  competition was carried out in May this year; it  was organised by the Community Development Office (KEMAS) and Resident Office Kapit.

Present at the prize giving ceremony were Kapit Resident, Joseph Belayong Punan, SAO Calvin Ligong who represented Bukit Mabong District Officer, heads of the various government departments and community leaders.
