BINTULU: Final preparations are in full swing to ensure the Sarawak Day 2024 celebration goes smoothly.

A full dress rehearsal was held at the venue, the Old Bintulu Airport Site here Saturday night (July 20) in the presence of Minister of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.

Dr Rundi, who is also the Minister responsible for the Sarawak Day 2024 celebration, expressed satisfaction with the commitment of all parties, assuring that the celebration will proceed smoothly.

In addition to the full rehearsal, preparations included thorough inspections of the main stage and programme arrangements to ensure the celebration’s perfection.

Dr Rundi said a brief safety briefing by the fire department would be given to all parties involved in the performances to prevent any untoward incidents, especially in unpredictable weather conditions.

Also present to witness the rehearsal were State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development Datuk Martin Ben, Deputy State Secretary (Operations) Datuk Hii Chang Kee, Bintulu Division Resident Nyurak Keti, as well as heads of state and federal government departments.

The highlight of the evening on July 22 will be graced by the presence of the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, will also be in attendance.

The Sarawak Day 2024 celebration, themed ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur Dalam Malaysia’ (Prosperous Sarawak in Malaysia), aims to expose the public to the significant development around Bintulu.

Local artists and bands such as Tuku Kame, Akoustik Connexion, Kumpulan JKKN Sarawak, Kelab Asal Main Dayak (KEMADA), Majestic Shades Dancers Bintulu, and Kumpulan Teater will provide pre-concert entertainment to set the mood for the evening.

Dignitaries and visitors will also be treated to a 20-minute musical pantomime performance combining storytelling elements of songs and music, voice-over and visual presentations of historical and current events, choreographed movements, and acting to highlight Sarawak’s important document participation as a partner in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) in the formation of Malaysia.

The main event of the evening will showcase top Malaysian entertainers, including Sarawak-born stars Dayang Nurfaizah and Bob Yusuf, alongside Melissa Francis, Daus Eli, Roxy Ixzy, Chien Ng, Suleiman Usop, and Jackson Michael.

The climax of the celebration will also feature a fireworks display in the skies over Bintulu town.
