BETONG: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has called for urgent upgrades to basic infrastructure in rural Sarawak, particularly in areas like Bukit Saban.
The Bukit Saban assemblyman highlighted the need for road repairs and improved electricity supply, which he said has been plagued by frequent disruptions.
“Limited basic facilities and power outages hinder the progress of residents here,” Uggah said during a “Leaders Meet the People” event at Rumah Panjang Enteri Anak Lengkoi Samu in Ulu Paku, Spaoh, today (Nov 2).
He added that with the Malaysia Madani initiative and strategic economic planning, Sarawak can accelerate its development and ensure rural areas enjoy facilities comparable to urban areas.
Despite Sarawak’s recent recognition as a high-income state by the World Bank, Uggah stressed the importance of continued efforts to improve the lives of the B40 group and sustain development.
He also commended Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Patinggi Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s commitment to rural development in Sarawak.
“Zahid’s visit underscores the significance of initiatives like the Integrated Village Economic Development Project (PROSPEK) Betong, which aim to uplift the lives of rural communities,” Uggah said.
“These projects not only boost income but also create job opportunities.”
