KUCHING: The Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2024 has set a new attendance record, attracting over 26,000 visitors throughout the event, the highest since its inception.

Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this year’s festival surpassed the previous record of 23,000 visitors set in 2019.

“So far this year, we have reached more than 26,000 visitors and it continues to increase. There is a possibility that the number will even reach 30,000 visitors this year.

“The number here is an increase of 35 percent (compared to the previous year) thereby increasing ticket sales revenue by 47 percent,” he said.

He said this during the press conference of the third day of the RWMF 2024 here last night.

Abdul Karim attributed this success to the festival’s diverse lineup, which included a Grammy Award winner and 22 acts from 14 countries across six continents.

However, despite the success of the festival, he said that the festival will not extend to more than three days.

“I think three days is good enough as it is held during the weekend. If we have to extend it to four days, that means that we have to take one more working day. So I think that three days is just nice,” he said.

The RWMF 2024 ends with a bang despite the drizzly weather. Festival goers continue to cheer and dance while watching the performances featured.

Some of the highly anticipated performances on this night include Havana Social Club, Alright Mela Meets Santoo and Salammusik.

This is in addition to performances by the Tribal Tide, The Color of Sound’s Malaysia, Krakatau Ethno and Bourbon Lassi.
