KUCHING: Sabah and Sarawak play an important role in Malaysian politics, says Dr Arnold Puyok.
According to the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) deputy dean, the number of seats for the Borneo states in Parliament is quite huge in the national context.
“Any entity that wishes to make a decision (in Parliament), whether they wanted it or not, would need to negotiate with Sabah and Sarawak as well.
“This shows that Malaysian politics has changed. It is no longer dominated by one political entity. Now, our politics has become more fluid and dynamic.”
Puyok said this during the ‘Politik Sabah dan Sarawak Dalam Konteks Hubungan Persekutuan-Negeri (2008-2021)’ online webinar on Tuesday (June 7).
He also predicted that in the next five to 10 years, the country would see more negotiations being made to form political coalitions, be they at federal or state level.
“Nevertheless, I am confident and I believe that Sabah and Sarawak will play an important role in shaping the country’s politics.”
