LABUAN: Three Sabah amateur players made it a 1-2-3 finish at the inaugural Borneo Closed Merdeka Cup Snooker Tournament at the Champion Billiard Saloon Labuan, Jalan Jati here.

Fifty-seven-year-old Rasid@Samy Mambalusan, of Semporna, emerged as champion while 35-year-old Mohd Rozaidi Ismail of Papar was second and 51-year-old Jumiadi Juhin of Tawau was third.

A total of 64 players from Sabah, Sarawak, Labuan, and Brunei pitted their skills in the tournament, held in collaboration with the local authority of Labuan Corporation (LC).

Labuan Corporation’s Tourism, Arts and Culture Department was also a key partner in organising the event.

The owner of Champion Billiard Saloon, the main organiser, Riswan Abd Salim said the event would become an annual fixture on the Labuan sports calendar, thanks to the overwhelming response. –  BERNAMA
