KUALA LUMPUR: Sabah FC climbed up to fourth spot after thrashing Kelantan FC 7-0 in their 2023 Super League match at UiTM Shah Alam Stadium, Selangor last night.
Sabah scored three goals in the first half, opening accounts in the 25th minute through a penalty by Jafri Firdaus Chew after teammate Telmo Ferreira Castanheira was brought down, and then scoring their second four minutes later when Farhan Roslan tapped in the ball off an Irfan Zakaria header. Rizal Ghazali’s blistering shot in the 39th minute after a lovely run upfield then made it 3-0.
Sabah continued the rout in the second half, when Irfan Fazail struck from a distance to score in the 56th minute, and by then Kelantan seemed disheartened and Castanheira made short work of the defence when he tucked in a cross from R Dinesh in the 68th minute for the fifth goal before Ramon scored Sabah’s sixth two minutes later.
And a minute shy of the end of the match, S Kumaahran snuck in and headed in a cross by Rizal to end things at 7-0, a result that firmly anchored Kelantan as the third-last team in the league.
