KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah State Legislative Assembly yesterday passed five bills related to Islamic legal affairs in the state.
The bills, tabled by Sabah Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif aim to ensure the implementation of Islamic laws in the state are more systematic and orderly, in line with the jurisdictions of the Syariah Court and the Sabah Islamic Religious Council.
The bills are the Syariah Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Enactment Bill 2024; the Islamic Family Law (Amendment) Enactment Bill 2024; the Zakat and Fitrah (Amendment) Enactment Bill 2024; the Waqf (State of Sabah) (Amendment) Enactment Bill 2024; and the Syariah Criminal Offences (Amendment) Enactment Bill 2024.
Four assemblymen debated the bills before they were passed by a majority voice vote by Speaker Datuk Kadzim M. Yahya.
