MIRI: After two gruelling days of competition, Sabah team emerged winner in the 21st Borneo ladies golf challenge trophy 2023 on Friday.
Aidah Abdullah with the score of 136 ; Jenny Lim Sui Fui (135) ; Nozila Mansin (133) ; Dionysia Petrus (129) cemented their position with their total combined scores of 533.
The Sarawak team represented by Lee Miew Jin ; Patricia Lipang ; Muren Wan and Lee Jong Ran claimed the second runner up position with a total combined scores of 557.
Third placing went to Brunei team represented by Agnes Dela Cruz ; Agnes Hiu ; Zainab Ali and Asmah Omar with total scores of 596.
Labuan team represented by Alice Liew; Latipah Hamdan ; Christina Tambakau and Shirley Poh claimed the fourth placing with scores of 604.
A total of 150 lady golfers from 18 clubs from Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei Darussalam and Labuan took part in the tournament which kicked off since March 16.
All prizes were handed over by Miri Golf Club president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew who was representing Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts cum Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said, the state government has always encouraged sports.
“What better way to foster friendship, make new ones, learn each other’s cultures and exchange views on topic of interest,” Ting pointed out.
He said, golf is one sport that provides all these as golfers spend four to five hours in a round of golf together.
Also present were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam’s wife Datin Patinggi Puan Sri Datuk Wira Lorna Enan Mulen Chan , the Borneo Ladies Golf Challenge Trophy’s patron Datin Esther Balan and the event organising chairlady Marilyn Raja Wright.
