KUCHING: The Association of Wives of Ministers and Assistant Ministers (Sabati) are on a mission to further beautify Kuching with their Environmental Beatification Programme.

The programme is supported by its president, Datuk Amar Hajjah Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, who is keen to see that trees and flowers are planted to beautify the surroundings.

On Saturday, more than 200 saplings of various species were planted at Jalan Setia Raja here which was a collaborative effort by Sabati together with Kuching South City Council (MBKS), government agencies, private sectors as well as non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

According to Datuk Hajah Fatimah Mohd Iskandar, the chairperson of the Environmental Sub-Committee of Sabati, the purpose of the programme, other than to beautify the environment, was to strengthen the role of SABATI in their efforts to implement community and social responsibility through welfare and volunteerism.

In addition, it also helped to strengthen the involvement from local authorities, government agencies, NGOs and school students to work together to implement greening programmes at public places.
