SIBU: Saberkas is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) focused on youth development, and not a political platform.
Saberkas vice-president Michael Tiang said this when met at a bubur lambuk (porridge) distribution at Masjid Darul Firdaus in the Pelawan state constituency here last Sunday (May 2).
“Saberkas is more about empowering youths in the state through various programmes, approaches, visions, missions and so on.
“It has nothing to do with politics even though many of its leaders are politicians.
“Politics is politics but in NGOs, we are prohibited from bringing it (politics) in,” said the Pelawan Saberkas chairman.
“Saberkas opens its membership to anyone, including from the opposition and so on, regardless of political ideology.”
He said empowerment of youths was very important as they are the future leaders of the nation.
On Sunday’s programme, Tiang said it was made successful by Saberkas together with the mosque management.
