KUCHING: Celebrating its golden jubilee since its inception in 1973, the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS) continues to play a vital role in nurturing moral integrity and human capital among local youths.
Over the past five decades, SABERKAS has been instrumental in cultivating diverse leadership tiers, including private and government officials, department heads, political secretaries, assemblypersons, and Members of Parliament (MPs), along with leadership at state and national levels.
This achievement is credited to a strategy where senior leaders mentor youths, ensuring SABERKAS’s ongoing relevance as a premier youth organisation in the state that consistently produces key leaders.
During the 17th Triennial General Assembly (TGM) of SABERKAS at Pullman Hotel here today (Dec 5), members of the organisation expressed the benefits they have reaped from their involvement in SABERKAS.
MINDY MAIDA JOHN, 33,
In my opinion, SABERKAS is one of the platforms where leaders give us guidance and the opportunity to lead in several matters such as sports, entrepreneurship, and many more. At the same time, when we get the opportunity to be with the senior leaders, we can learn more about the process of carrying a project successfully.
JACQUELINE ANNA KULLEH, 24,
Through SABERKAS, I was able to apply the skills I have through community programmes, especially skills involving technology. I was also able to apply the spirit of leadership because most programmes are based on community welfare.
MICHAEL CHAI, 31,
We, as youth utilise the SABERKAS platform to improve leadership skills through the implementation of programmes that involve the community. It also gives us a new experience because this community programme is varied and not just focused on one aspect. For example, welfare, culture, entrepreneurship, and many more. It also opened our eyes that youth have a great responsibility to contribute to the community.
ALBERT LOI, 30,
In addition to being trained on leadership skills, we were also given the opportunity to mix with various races. This is important because, as a leader, we need to ensure that all races benefit from the programmes or initiatives being implemented.
