KUCHING: Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC) Awang Din Awang Gani will retire from the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) on Saturday (May 11) after serving 32 years in the force.
The 59-year-old, hailing from Kampung Gersik here, who currently holds the position of Sarawak Management Department chief, formally handed over his duties to incoming chief SAC Rizal Abd Rahman Sidek.
The handover ceremony took place at the Senior Officer’s Mess of the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) on Friday (May 10), witnessed by Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata.
In his speech, Comm Mancha expressed gratitude to SAC Awang Din for his dedication during his 32 years, 11 months, and 16 days of service in various capacities within the force, particularly during his tenure as the Sarawak Management Department chief.
“Despite his relatively brief tenure of about 11 months, SAC Awang Din’s contributions to the Sarawak IPK have been significant, ensuring the smooth execution of all departmental programmes.”
Comm Mancha congratulated SAC Rizal on his new appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to excel in his new role, given his extensive management experience.
In his farewell address, SAC Awang Din expressed heartfelt gratitude to his colleagues for their unwavering support throughout his career, acknowledging the challenges he overcame with their assistance.
“To SAC Rizal, I congratulate him and hope that everyone will give him their undivided support.”
SAC Awang Din joined the force on May 26, 1991, as a probation inspector before assuming various roles, including crime investigating officer and traffic investigating officer at Melaka IPK.
He later served in different departments, including the Internal Security and Public Order Department (March 2004) and the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID – June 2005) in Bukit Aman.
In April 2019, SAC Awang Din returned to Sarawak as the 30th Kuching police chief with the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).
He later served as the deputy chief of the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (Strategic Planning) at Johor IPK before returning to Sarawak as the Sarawak Management Department chief.
