KUCHING: The unity enjoyed in Sarawak must be protected at all costs, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
He said the launch of the Keluarga Malaysia concept by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in Sarawak showed that the state was the last frontier in upholding the value.
“I am not surprised the Prime Minister and the Federal Cabinet chose to launch the programme in Sarawak.
“The programme aims to improve inclusivity, finding common ground and contentment (among Malaysians).
“Sarawak is the last frontier (of unity) for Malaya to emulate. Sarawakians must unite to safeguard this,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday (Sunday).
On Saturday, Ismail launched the Keluarga Malaysia concept during his one-day working visit to Sarawak; it was also his maiden visit to the state after being appointed to the position in August.
In a separate post, Urban Development and Natural Resources Assistant Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh also echoed Dr Sim’s sentiments.
“Keluarga Malaysia is an institution to protect security, maintain dignity as well as ensure the well-being of the masses,” he said.
Layar assemblyman Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu also lauded the launch of the concept in the state.
“This is an approach of the Malaysian government that ensures policies, services and development that are inclusive, caring and accessible for all Malaysians,” he said.
On Saturday, Ismail during his speech said the Keluarga Malaysia initiative would boost efforts to restore the nation, adding that with its launch in Sarawak, the spirit of inclusiveness and resilience could be fostered among the masses.
“The Malaysian Family is the most reliable manifestation as a guide for us to restore the country. Let our family live in safety and prosperity,” the premier said.
