SERIAN: Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn has granted a total of RM450,000 from his rural transformation projects (RTP) fund to construct two projects in Kampung Darul Islam Belimbing.
According to Sagah, RM150,000 was used to construct a new fence for a mosque in the village, while RM300,000 was used to erect stalls for the local traders.
“Locals have requested that stalls be built so that they can trade.
“Therefore, I set aside RM300,000 for them to construct stalls, with the project being overseen by the Serian Resident office,” he said at the breaking-of-fast event in Kampung Darul Islam Belimbing here on Thursday.
During the ceremony, Sagah, who is also a Tarat assemblyman, reminded the Muslims and Christians that, despite their differing beliefs and perspectives, they share a few commonalities.
“While Muslims are celebrating Ramadan, we Christians are observing Lent, a period of penitence and fasting.
“All Sarawakians, regardless of ethnicity or religion, must maintain our unity so that we can live peacefully under one roof,” he stated.
The breaking-of fast event, which was organised by the Lembaga Amanah Kebajikan Islam Serian (LAKIS) and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Dana Kita in collaboration with the Kampung Darul Islam Belimbing village security and development committee (JKKK), also included a number of donations.
Pertubuhan Kebajikan Dana Kita delivered 20 food baskets to the asnaf in the village while Baitulmal Serian and the Serian Resident Office both contributed hand sanitisers as well as other donations.
“The organisation of such a programme is two-pronged.
“Apart from being able to strengthen the relationship among the locals, it is also used as a medium for mutual relations between leaders and the people.
“Any input whether on the needs of the people or the government’s agenda will be communicated more effectively,” said calling officer of Serian Resident office Mahyuddin Hafiz.
The villagers also prepared bubur lambuk to be distributed to the visitors and locals.
Also present were political secretary to Premier of Sarawak Damen Rejek and Serian Resident Tuah Suni.
