KUCHING: Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn has expressed his hope for a greater enrolment of teachers at the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) in Sarawak.
The Sarawak Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development urged the Education Service Commission Malaysia to improve provisions for the state and ensure the placement of qualified teachers under the Ministry of Education (MoE).
“This is to ensure qualified teachers can be placed here in order to fill the available vacancies,” he told the media after attending the launch of the Mathematics Pedagogical Learning, Understanding and Support (MATHS PLUS) project at the IPG Batu Lintang campus here on Monday (July 17).
During a meeting with federal Minister of Education, Fadhlina Sidek, he highlighted the absence of headmasters, principals and district education officers in several schools across Sarawak.
“We discussed this matter because there are acting headmasters or principals who remain in that position until their retirement, instead of being appointed permanently. I hope we can follow up on this matter soon,” Sagah stated.
He expressed his desire for a stronger relationship between his ministry and MoE, particularly in addressing issues related to teacher vacancies.
“This problem occurs every year due to retirements, resignations or teacher transfers outside of Sarawak.
“We can only do our best, and that’s why we need to strengthen our relationship with the MoE to resolve this issue.”
