SIBU: There is a need for more innovation competitions as a means to cultivate creativity among students.
According to Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, this aligns with the government’s objective of nurturing a culture of innovation, especially among the younger generation.
“I believe that through innovation competitions like this, there’s an opportunity for students to showcase their creations and innovations.
“The Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD) welcomes and encourages comprehensive involvement from educational institutions, public and private higher education institutions, to collaborate in organising innovation and creativity competitions.,” he said.
Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, Sagah’s deputy, delivered this message in a speech on Sagah’s behalf during the Smart Innovation Competition and the Kolej Vokasional (KV) Sibu Appreciation and Excellence Awards at Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Chancellor’s Hall, University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) here today (Nov 11).
Meanwhile, on the appreciation and excellence awards, Sagah said that it serves as an extrinsic recognition that nurtures self-motivation and the desire to succeed academically and co-curricularly, including sports, extracurricular activities, and leadership.
“This award ceremony can stimulate values of creativity, innovation, and critical thinking, essential in today’s world as outlined in the Malaysian Education Development Plan (PPM) 2013-2025,” he added.
In the Note of Understanding (NoU) between KV Sibu and four industry players today, Sagah said that it is an agreement that encompasses sharing expertise and exchanging ideas, experiences, creativity, and innovation in various fields with the industry.
“Emphasised in the NoU is the collaboration to enhance institutional excellence, including the development of students in the curriculum, co-curricular activities, and character.
“Moreover, it enhances the effectiveness of institutional management and administration,” he added.
He hoped that the achievements made by the students today will serve as a starting point for them to continue carving success in the future, aligning with the government’s aspirations through the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) policy to produce a proficient workforce, especially in technical and skill-based fields.
