SIBU: A 51-year-old woman died of her injuries after a sago palm which her husband was felling crashed on her.
The incident happened at a mangrove swamp in Dalat last Monday.
Dalat District police chief DSP Roslan Leman said prior to the 11am incident, the victim, Agnes Tayok, together with her 56-year-old husband had gone to Kpg Kekan to fell sago palms.
“While her husband was cutting the sago palm, Agnes, who was holding a rope tied to the sago palm, then pulled the rope to prevent the palm from crashing on a birdhouse. However, the palm instead came crashing on her.
“Her husband then sought the villagers’ help to carry Agnes to their house nearby. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries.
Roslan said the police had ruled out foul play in the incident.
Dalat, about two hours speedboat ride from Sibu is synonymous with sago where the people depend on it to make a living.
