KUCHING: The president of Handball Association Sarawak (SAHA), Norani Drahman was confident they can form two formidable teams (men and women) to participate in the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2018 in the Perak Darul Redzuan.

According to Norani, the decision was made after taking into account the time factor for the preparation of the teams, including an initial approach of organising a National Level Handball Coaching Course Level I 2017.

Besides holding two events, namely the 12th Edition of Sarawak Handball Open Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Haji Johari Cup (Men’s) and the 7th Edition of Dr Haji Abdul Rahman Junaidi Cup (Women’s) 2017, the association plays a big role to identify potential players to form the desired teams.

“We hope the coaches participating in this course will be able to become a earlier mover for SAHA in providing a strong team to face the Sukma 2018,” she said at the closing ceremony of the National Level of Handball Coaching Course Level 1 2017 at the Institute of Teacher Education Kampus Batu Lintang (IPGKBL) recently.

She said what matters are the coaches who have participated in these courses should be more proactive. They must use the Sarawak Sports Championship (SUKSAR) 2017 to be held in December this year as an early platform to provide players and teams.

“Through SUKSAR (Sarawak Games) 2017, hopefully the coaches will be able to contribute and prepare the teams in their respective zones.

“I believe that this effort will give double credit to SAHA in identifying to don the jerseys for both teams,” said Norani.
