KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate in Julau, Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum accepts his shocking defeat to
Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president and Julau incumbent MP Larry Sng in the 15th general election (GE15).

“The voters have made up their mind and let the result shows who they voted to represent them.

“The large number of votes that the Independent (Elly Lawai Ngalai) obtained is quite surprising. Maybe, it’s due to the nature of the people that we cannot second guess.

“Either way, I think we cannot tell why the result is not in our favour. We will surely digest this for a moment,” he said when met by reporter at BCCK last night (Nov 19).

Salang added that the voter turnout for Julau was very low compared to the number of registered voters.

“If you total up the number of votes and compare it to registered voters which is over 34,000, I think we can see that the number of voters who came out to vote was slightly over 22,000, which is surprising low,” added the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president.
Asked about his campaign strategy, he said that the people were quite excited and gave him the confidence to compete in the general election.

Still, he said, “It looks like it’s not in our favour this time. I do not feel despair. It is what it is.

“We will analyse everything that is going here and from there, we will figure out what can we do in the future, not for me but for other people.”
