KUCHING: The salary increment for the state civil servants will be announced in the fourth quarter, sometime within October to December, after the Federal Government table their Budget for 2025.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg clarified that the announcement for the increment had to be postponed due to the scarce details that the Sarawak government have about the salary increase for federal civil servants.
“We will be studying the adjustments to be made as soon as we obtain the details,” he said.
He disclosed this during a town hall session after his keynote address at the Sarawak Budget Discussion organised by Persatuan Mahasiswa Sarawak Universiti Malaya at Universiti Malaya (UM), Kuala Lumpur today (May 18).
Following this, Abang Johari reaffirmed that for now, there are no changes to the salary.
“I cannot give you a guarantee on the salary change because you are tied to the Public Service Department Malaysia professional scheme unless we have a Contribution-Based-Position (JBC) scheme.
“But even with JBC, we have to educate the people to accept it because the people’s mindset is that without pension, it will be hard to get by when in actuality, the pension fund is similar to contributing to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF),” he said.
