KOTA SAMARAHAN: Besides food stalls, there are also booths offering handicrafts and other products at the Samarahan Food & Culture Festival 2022.

One of the participants, Wini Copper, 43, sells bead products at the festival which is being held at The Summer Shopping Mall here from Dec 10 to 16.

This Bidayuh entrepreneur from MmCollectionSarawak has been in the business of ceramic bead products since 2016 and offers handmade decorative accessories.

With an initial capital of a few hundred ringgit, she sells bead products from as low as RM15.

“There are lots of challenges in business. We require assistants who are skilled and capable of making beads and producing products with the desired quality.

“Even though it is only a small business, we still work hard to develop our business until it is known by many.

“For the time being, we share our sustenance by promoting this business through showcase programmes either through government or non-governmental agencies, such as local art associations,” she said.

She added the focus is on manufacturing ceramic bead accessories because decorative accessories and women are seen as synonymous.

“Women of all ages love accessories at any time, especially when a design is easy to match with various fashion styles as well as for men. Furthermore, our designs are focused on temporary and easy-to-style designs,” she added.

Meanwhile many stalls that open from 2 pm to 11 pm offer a variety of foods that are rarely found locally. At the festival there is even a place for singing competitions.

Another business person, Mohd Nazri Haili, 29, has an entrerprise that he called Splash_kch.

He established it last Oct 1 to satisfy his interest and with support from his family.

Drinks such as coffee, smoothies and many others are available at his place.

“The challenge faced throughout our business is that sometimes our business has no sales and a lack of response from customers”.

He works tirelessly to further expand his small business and remains persistent although there are many competitors in other marketing.

On the contrary, it fulfils his desires more.

Nazri became motivated to continue after receiving positive feedback about the sale of his coffee drink.
