KUCHING: The swearing-in of Kota Samarahan Municipal Council councillors for a six-month term extension from July 1-Dec 31 started on a happy note, with the Public Works Department (JKR) and its contractor resuming work at the traffic light projects at the roundabouts in the district.

“MPKS and Samarahan folk are happy because their long-standing headache—the daily massive traffic jams—is going to be cured,” said MPKS chairman Datuk Peter Minos.

He thanked Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Douglas Uggah Embas and the new JKR director who had acted fast and earnestly.

“MPKS is very grateful. After suffering for years, Samarahan folk plus many others can now breathe a sigh of relief.”

He added that MPKS would help out by monitoring the progress of the projects.

“Another happy news is hearing that the Sarawak Metro ART project is coming up soon by the end of this year.

“This is the first of such project in Sarawak. That will be done in Kota Samarahan as the first phase.”

He added that when completed, the ART project would help in alleviating traffic jam woes in Kota Samarahan.

“MPKS is helping Sarawak Metro where needed and necessary by giving ideas on local conditions.

“For MPKS, it will be very busy with six ongoing projects. MPKS will do its best to meet the challenges,” said Minos
