KUCHING: Sarawak is rich in Islamic tourism attractions, especially in the Santubong area here.
In stating this, Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) director-general Datuk Dr Mohmed Razip Hasan said this was because there were many historical sites that could attract tourists.
“Therefore, the selection of Santubong for today’s programme is not just to simply hold it here, but this area is the actual location where the second oldest Malay state in the world began.
“In Santubong, there is also the tomb of Sultan Tengah and also a prehistoric site,” he said on Tuesday (Nov 15).
He said this during the launch of the Muslim-Friendly Tour Guides (MFTG) Logo and Lapel Pin and presentation of Sarawak MTFG recognition certificate and presentation of mosque visit guide (MOSVI) course participation certificate at Damai Beach Resort here.
Mohmed Razip added that Santubong was also an important site for Sarawak and for Islamic tourism because it was also where the activity of the sighting of the moon is done yearly. “So, with that, MFTG and MOSVI can highlight this historic attraction to tourists.”
Later, the ceremony was officiated by Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (Motac) secretary-general Datuk Saraya Arbi, who represented caretaker minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
