SIBU: Kelab Sape Dayak Sibu (KSDS) will be holding its inaugural Sape Showcase and Exhibition 2017 on September 23 at the Sibu Heritage Cente, Wong Nai Siong Road/Central Road from 10am to 7pm.
KSDS Chairman, Anthony Abong said the programme was organised in collaboration with Borneo Events Entertainment, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) and Sibu Heritage Centre.
“The programme is an inaugural event in the central region to promote the beauty of sape and its music to the world,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
Anthony added the programme was also held in conjunction with Visit Sibu Year (VSY) 2017, Sibu Base Jump 2017 and Malaysia Day.
Among the activities are a sape exhibition, a sape making demonstration, a sape playing demonstration, a talk on sape, a sape revolution exhibition, the selling of crafts, a photo session using Dayak traditional clothes for those interested, sape busking and a sape music show by members of KSDS.
He added that the chosen theme for the programme was “With Sape, We Unite”.
“We chose this theme because sape players come from throughout the world such as Uyau Morris from Indonesia, Tabunesia (Indonesia), Arai (Jepun), Abisheg (India), Julian Cottet (Spain) and local players, namely, Jerry Kamit, Saufi, Eugene, Jimpau, Anderson Kalang and so on. All of them know each other indirectly through sape.”
KSDS has invited several masters of sape and well-known sape players in the state to join the Sape Showcase and Exhibition 2017.
Anthony added KSDS would also be conducting a membership drive for those interested.
“The exhibition is free of charge and anyone regardless of age can come and witness our activities,” he said.
KSDS was approved by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) officially on April 14, 2017.
Also present at the press conference yesterday were KSDS Deputy chairman, Robin Albert Bennet and committee members Nicholas Albert Bennet.
