MIRI: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been activated for a plywood factory worker who has gone missing after he was attacked by a crocodile at Sungai Bilat in Kuala Baram.

Muhammad Syopyan Nasution, an Indonesian, was believed to have been attacked by a crocodile while walking on a pipeline crossing Sungai Bilat around 9pm on Tuesday.

The incident was witnessed by his friend, Badriansyah, who was at the scene when the crocodile attacked.

Miri Fire and Rescue department (Bomba) chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said that a team of 10 has been despatched to the scene to search for the missing person, after a report on the incident was lodged by Badriansyah yesterday (October 30) at Lutong police station.

“So far there are no signs of the missing man,” said Law.

Prior to the incident, the victim and his friend had planned to go to a supermarket in Tudan via the pipeline path from the factory.
