LIMBANG: The search and rescue (SAR) operations to locate Sahari Mail, 66, who was reported missing while on a fishing trip will resume today after a futile effort yesterday.
The joint effort yesterday involved a collaboration between the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the Sarawak Forestry Corporation, and teams from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) near the vicinity of the Luagan area, where his clothing and machete were discovered.
Simultaneously, other agencies including the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), the Malaysia Civil Defence (APM), the Volunteer Firefighters Brigade (PBS), and local volunteers, have been actively scouring the river downstream using a boat.
As of 5 pm yesterday, the SAR operation was suspended and will resume today.
Sahari went missing on Aug 17 after venturing out in the afternoon to gather rattan and cast fishing nets by the river.
His failure to return home prompted the local community to alert the authorities. Preliminary reports indicate that the victim was potentially attacked by a crocodile during the course of his activities.
