MIRI: Police have launched a search and rescue (SAR) operation for a 36 year-old man who has gone missing for three days after he failed to return to his camp’s quarters in Stamping Camp, Ulu Baram.

Prior to his disappearance, the man’s wife told the police that her husband, identified as Johnny Sigai, had gone to a nearby jungle (Stamping, Pelutan Camp) to check on traps which he had earlier set up.

It was on October 14 that they had that conversation around 3pm.

As at press time yesterday, the search for Johnny was still ongoing.

According to Marudi Police chief DSP Gabriel Risut in a statement on Wednesday, the SAR team comprising Marudi police, Marudi Civil Defence Force (APM) and Long Lama fire personnel had been mobilised to the scene.

“The journey from Long Pelutan to Long Lama fire station takes about four-hour drive using the logging road,” said Gabriel.
