ROBAN: An elderly man with dementia has been reported missing after failing to return home since Monday (Mar 11).

The victim, identified as 78-year-old Lakui Mapan, had left his house at Rh Inggam, Sungai Nyiar around 11.30 am. He was wearing a red shirt and blue shorts.

Initial efforts to locate the victim were performed but to no avail.

Subsequently, the family went to the police station to file a missing person’s report.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that firefighters from the Saratok station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call around 10.14 am today (Mar 12).

The team initiated a search and rescue (SAR) operation at 10.42 am following a briefing with the police and the longhouse residents.

The operation was carried out within a 1km search radius from the victim’s last known location, which is the main road area near the longhouse.

At the time of writing, the search for Lakui is ongoing.
