KUCHING: A search and rescue (SAR) operations is underway to locate a 59-year-old man reported missing at sea near Santubong last Sunday.

Petra Jaya fire station chief Azaharul Sahari said they received a call from Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sarawak around 9.25pm requesting assistance to search for the victim.

It was told the victim, identified as Samsudin Beden, left his house around 5.50am to send a boat from Santubong to Kampung Lundu and has yet to reach Lundu.

The villagers have carried out their own search but to no avail.

The SAR operations today (Jan 4) was carried out in the waters of Santubong to Pulau Satang and Talang-Talang.

Petra Jaya firefighters have already set up a control post at the Fisheries Jetty next to Santubong Bridge.

Lundu fire station has been ordered to deploy their men to assist the SAR operations.
