KUCHING: A search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched yesterday for a 17-year-old boy from Siburan who was reported to have fallen from the Kuap Bridge into a river at Jalan Datuk Muhammad Musa here.

According to the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operation centre, a team of firemen from Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was despatched to the scene after a distress call on the incident was received around 8am.

A team of firefighters from Kota Samarahan BBP was also present to assist in the SAR operation.

It was believed that the victim had fallen from the bridge and was caught in a strong current and swept downstream.
The incident was said to have been witnessed by the victim’s wife, mother and sister.
