SIBU: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been launched for a man feared drowned near the Lanang Bridge here, yesterday (Sept 6).

The operation, led by the Sibu Fire and Rescue Station (BOMBA), was initiated following a report received from the Lanang Police Station at 1pm.

The incident was reported by the father of the missing 23-year-old man, identified as Aaron Wisely Jamut.

“According to the father, Aaron left their residence at the BN 10 PGA Sibu camp on the evening of September 5 around 8pm to check his salary at a bank.

“However, he failed to return home, prompting his family to file a police report. Aaron is described as approximately 180 cm tall, last seen wearing a black shirt and black sports pants,” it said in the report.

The discovery of a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle registered to the victim at Lanang Bridge prompted the immediate mobilisation of a search team to the scene.

The day one search effort includes surface searching within a 3 kilometre radius from the point where the missing person is believed to have disappeared.
