KUCHING: Sarawak Design Centre (SARADEC) has been engaging the Sarawak Furniture Industries Association on synergies.
Led by the chief executive officer, Dayang Nena, the design center met with 12 members from SFIA and vendors from the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) which is their parent company on Thursday (July 14).
During the meeting, they discussed synergies for future promotional activities and SayD’SignersSarawak Link and Match (SLIM) programme for products designed by SayD’SignerSarawak.
SFIA members and STIDC vendors are currently producing furniture mainly for the local market.
Dayang said they are now planning to have a sales launching programme at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) for newly designed products and also intend to participate in the FIND Design Fair under the Singapore Design Week in September.
“It is going to be a breakthrough for the Sarawak furniture industry as the programme has produced 35 new designed items.
“I am confident that these items with their unique designs will be able to meet export market requirement,” she added.
The SayD’SignersSarawak programme focuses on grooming and providing skills training for fresh graduates and at the same time build career paths as world class furniture designers.
Since its commencement in 2018, a total of 32 fresh graduates had been trained under the programme which is developed by STIDC in collaboration with UNIMAS and Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).
