SARATOK: The Kalaka Service Centre, in partnership with the Saratok Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), will organise the Saratok Open tug of war competition, vying for the prestigious Mohamad Duri Cup. The competition comes with an enticing total prize pool of RM7,500.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri revealed that the competition is scheduled to take place from Sept 23 to 24 at the Saratok District Council (MDS) field.
Highlighting the rarity of community sporting events like tug of war, he explained, “Given this context, we have dedicated two days next month for enthusiasts of this traditional sport to come together and engage in friendly competition, rekindling the spirit of tug of war.”
“Hence, this competition is open to all teams from Saratok, with the intention of fostering better mutual understanding and building positive relationships among the community,” he added.
The Saratok Open will have two categories: men and women, both aged 18 and above.
In the men’s category, the champion will be awarded a cash prize of RM2,000, along with a trophy and medal. The runner-up will secure RM1,500, the third-place team will receive RM1,000, and the fourth-place team will earn RM500.
In the women’s category, the champion will take home RM1,000 in cash, accompanied by a trophy and medal. The runner-up will be awarded RM700, while the third and fourth-place teams will receive RM500 and RM300, respectively.
