SIBU: Sarawak stands out in shaping a brighter future through the authentic unity it has practised for centuries, said Temenggong Stanley Geramong Bandar.

Stanley praised Sarawak as a prime example in Malaysia for effectively embracing unity despite its people’s diverse backgrounds.

“This is the result of a longstanding social recipe that emphasises harmony and mutual respect in all circumstances.

“Unity in Sarawak becomes the pillar of success in nurturing strong bonds among its diverse communities, ensuring security, harmony, and a united front despite the rich cultural and religious diversity,” he said.

He said this while representing Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang at the Dayak Night programme in conjunction with the Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF) 2023 at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang here on Friday night.

Stanley also considered the prosperity and stability in Malaysia, particularly in Sarawak, as a collective achievement borne out of the spirit of cooperation and consensus among all communities, working towards the common goal of a stable and prosperous nation.

“In Sarawak, we are fortunate to uphold the spirit of unity among our various ethnic groups. In a single year, we celebrate at least four major festivals, such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Hari Gawai Dayak and Christmas.

“These celebrations are marked by the participation of multiple communities in the Land of the Hornbills, providing ample opportunities to share in each other’s joys. Through this, diverse segments of society can embrace and appreciate each other’s cultures and traditions, fostering even stronger bonds,” he added.

Meanwhile, commenting on the event, Stanley said that it held profound significance for the Dayak community, particularly in Sibu and neighbouring regions.

“It serves as a platform to express the unique identity of each ethnic group and cultivate a sense of togetherness amidst their diversity,” he said.

Also present were deputy chairman of Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley, the event’s organising chairman Augustine Merikan, Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) chairman Chambai Lindong and others.
