BINTULU: The Sarawak government is actively formulating detailed proposals for the acquisition of Bintulu Port.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this when met by the media during his visit to Rumah Stanly Lunyong, Kuala Serupai on Monday (Oct 30).

Uggah, who is also the Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, said that the process is well underway, building on the federal government’s principle agreement of the acquisition.

“Right now, we are in the process of crafting the detailed proposals, which will be submitted to the federal government.

“This will be a crucial step towards the Sarawak government taking over the management of Bintulu Port.”

In light of the Sarawak government’s efforts to revitalise Bintulu, Uggah hoped that the residents of the Jepak constituency would extend their support to the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate, Iskandar Turkee, in the upcoming Jepak by-election scheduled for Nov 4.

Besides focusing on development initiatives, the GPS-led state government consistently provide allocations for the elected representatives to help their constituents in their respective areas.

Uggah added that the Sarawak government also maintains a commitment to supporting longhouse residents through annual allocations aimed at upgrading and repairing longhouses.

“A substantial amount of assistance is channeled by the Sarawak government to improve the lives of its people, and I encourage the residents of Jepak to continue supporting the GPS candidate on Nov 4.”

Also present were Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom; Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Aidel Lariwoo; Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam; Deputy Minister for Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu; Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Native Law and Customs), Jefferson Jamit Unyat; Betong MP Dr Richard Rapu and Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh.
