KUCHING: Sarawak Agrofest 2018 recorded about RM1 million worth of sales in one week, said Assistant Minister of Native Land Development, Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn. According to Roland, the figure was derived from the total Sarawak Agrofest 2018 sales of RM939,554 including “outside of the counter” deals.
“The success of the event is due to the rebranding of the old programme, namely, the Farmers and Fishermen Day.
“This programme should be held annually to encourage and educate our farmers to further develop our agriculture sector through “Smart Farming” among young agro-entrepreneurs,” said Roland in his speech when representing Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, during the Sarawak Agrofest 2018 dinner held at a convention centre in Demak on Sunday.
Roland pointed out that more added values could be incorporated into the Sarawak Agrofest in the future to ensure benefits for the targeted group. He said Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg agreed that the programme be organised annually throughout the state.
“More key players are needed from all over the state to exhibit their products and, at the same time, provide more input for the local farmers,” he said. Also present was Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail.
