KUCHING: The establishment of the sports facilities such as the Sarawak Sports Village in the state aims to realise the vision of making the state a sports powerhouse.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said Sarawak wants to produce more champions in sports at the international level in the future.

He said apart from the sports village, the state government has supported the construction of mini stadiums across the state.

“As you know New Zealand has a small population, but they are able to produce world champions in sports.

“Therefore, I believe Sarawak, also with a small population, can also achieve the same goals,” he said.

He was speaking at the launch of the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Appreciation, Engagement, and Collaboration Nite 2022 programme at Waterfront Hotel on Monday evening.

Abang Johari said that he would channel allocation for the building of the sport village which is initiated by MYSED.
