As of March 2023, Malaysia has welcomed approximately 4.5 million foreign tourists, with a significant number originating from ASEAN countries.
Deputy Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Khairul Firdaus Akhbar Khan expressed confidence that the country’s continuous momentum in tourism will help achieve the target of 16.1 million tourist arrivals this year, generating an estimated revenue of over RM49 billion.
The recovery from the impact of COVID-19, coupled with the reopening of borders and close collaboration with Tourism Malaysia, has contributed to the increased influx of visitors from China, Taiwan, and Korea who are drawn to the pristine natural landscapes of Sarawak and Sabah, among other states.
In addition, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC) and Tourism Malaysia have identified key markets in the Middle East, China, India, and Europe, focusing on promoting Malaysia as a desirable destination for travellers from these regions.
