KUCHING: Sarawak arts literacy should not be left out of mainstream development, said Malaysian National Laureate Datuk Seri Dr A. Samad Said.
He said Sarawak arts are vital in elevating national integration.
“To encourage poets and litterateur to produce more Sarawak art pieces, related organisations and agencies should organise more engagement programmes.
“Workshop programmes at all levels, for example, would provide better exposure and initiate the young to inculcate the love for arts and culture,” he proposed.
Referring the ninth Gathering of Literature and Poetry programme held at the Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka Sarawak (DBP) yesterday, he explained discussion programmes would be effective through collaborative efforts from various sectors.
“The programme must be able to initiate intellectual discussion by exchanging ideas and influence participants to produce their artworks with high integrity and social value,” he said.
Asked on his plans to publish a book of his 200 poems, he said: “It is expected that there are those who will not be able to help publish it, that’s normal, but I believe I will find the way. Maybe it will be published within these two to three months.”
