KUCHING: Sarawak will provide the best services and first-rate cancer medical facilities to the people, particularly those who are afflicted with the disease.
Minister for Local Government, Housing and Public Health Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the government’s effort to build the centre was to ensure comprehensive health services to the people.
“With the establishment of the centre, we no longer have to think about the cost of flight tickets, accommodation and so on to get treatment in Peninsular Malaysia.
“I understand that the cost of cancer treatment is very expensive that so many people cannot afford private treatment despite having insurance,” he explained.
He said this at the of his ministry’s Gawai Raya celebration held at the Raia Hotel Convention Hall here yesterday.
Dr Sim who is also Deputy Premier added that the Sarawak Cancer Centre would be built near the Sarawak Heart Centre in Kota Samarahan.
“I don’t expect you to use it just because I want all of you to be healthy. But if you must use it, you can rest assured that we have the best facilities, equipment and services at the centre,” he said.
At the event, he presented souvenirs to officers who were on transfer and who had completed their services in the ministry as a token of appreciation including the presentation of the ‘King & Queen Of The Night’ prize.
He commended the ministry for being awarded the ‘Ministry of Hope’ in the category of Best Record Management Evaluation and Recognition Award in the Sarawak Public Service for 2021.
